Bouncing Back!

It’s been 5 months since the last time I’ve posted about my new website/blog Wanderful Wordsmith. It’s not my intention to abandon my beloved Curly Bookworm. I was too occupied to maintain two blogs! I really missed Curly Bookworm and my fellow bloggers in my community here.

So what happened in my absence here? Well, I’ve been contributing to two e-magazines in Thailand which is based in Bangkok. I actually juggled teaching ESL to Mongolian doctors, writing for e-magazines, and travel blogging! Check out my posts (click the titles):

August Awesomeness Overload It’s about awesome blessings from above.

  • Pinoy Thaiyo is the first and only Filipino e-magazine in Thailand. As one of the pioneering team, I was assigned as a columnist for Amazing Pinoy. I feature Filipinos (even half Filipinos) who excel with expertise in their respective fields and give glory to our motherland. They’re exceptional and gifted people from all walks of life who inspire and imbue patriotism, perseverance, patience and persistence.

Winning Happiness, Health and Wealth with iWON

The paraphernalia signifying the Philippine flag beautifies SM Megamall where the iWON Mega Sizzle 2 and product launching took place last night. While heralding the Independence Day that would take place in less than two weeks, seeing the paraphernalia ignited an epiphany. The thrill almost swept me like the teasing tides of the scorching summer’s beach — oh how I long to be INDEPENDENT!

Who wouldn’t like FREEDOM from STRESS, HEALTH PROBLEMS, and FINANCIAL STRAINS?

While our country has been blessed by freedom from the tyranny of other governments who occupied the Philippines for hundreds of years, it’s ironic how worsening the cases of poverty, graft and corruption and economic crisis nowadays. They seem to shackle majority of the masses to greater poverty and endless stress! You’re lying if you tell me you aren’t affected.

Chasing Chances

Talk about multilevel marketing (MLM) or networking business, and I would give you cold shoulders. No matter how appealing and wonderful the products could be, you wouldn’t convince me. Believe me, I’ve been there for many years. Same old story.

I had my part for failing. Would you blame me being a victim of wrong companies and their wrong system?

BUT WAIT!

I’ve found out something new, very unique and set-apart company – a trustworthy one. It’s not the same as those who failed me before. You must have been also very tired of broken promises — ropes of sand. All you have to do is to set aside SKEPTICISM. Set aside your doubts and fears. Give iWON a chance to prove your dilemmas wrong. Give yourself another chance. These, I told myself.

Aside from knowing personally the President of the company, Ptr. Richard Tamayo, and the lifestyle coach behind PER.L.A., Dr. Blecenda “Blessy” Varona, I was astonished with the mission and vision of the company. iWON stands for Infinite Wellness Opportunity Network.

Chances for Change

We’ve heard many times that “HEALTH is WEALTH”. Countless times I braced that maxim and did my best to change and improve my lifestyle. Our family had been though the most excruciating pain and financial strains due to health cases: three deaths in a row for three consecutive years! That should stop. God is gracious, and he allowed things to happen for a purpose.

I am persuaded with a belief that when health is secured, happiness and wealth just follow. I have something to do to CHANGE. It should start within. That’s the main reason I joined iWON! I’m grateful for this wonderful opportunity to change my life holistically, help my family and others’ lives as well — be a world changer: one sick and poor person at a time.

Suzuki Violin Summer Camp Concert 2015

I’m a sucker of classical and instrumental music. Quite emotional in nature, I’m easily driven by the melody, harmony, and rhythm. So when I’m invited to watch recitals and concerts, I would always say YES! Especially if it’s a treat or if it’s free!

I said yes to an invitation of a friend, after we watched an oboe and flute recital early this May. I forgot if Rufina the saxophonist, mentioned it’s a Suzuki Violin Concert in particular. I just remembered it’s a concert on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2015, at Xavier’s School in Nuvali.

And I vividly remembered I said yes, I would come and see, and support them. But due to crazy schedule, something came up. I changed my mind. I wouldn’t go, unless I make a way out of my schedule’s maze. Then Michael the violinist, followed up an invitation (I remembered he mentioned it during his birthday on April), persuaded me to come. Wylee the cellist fetched me. How could I say NO to the strong force of musical friends? I could hardly imagine. Haha

Suzuki Surprise

It was my first time to visit the school. I was tempted to go to its direction to run one time I was a lone runner at Nuvali. I was fascinated by its architecture. The infrastructures were cool! I was surprised to see it in the midst of the verdant and serene lands. I was even more surprised to have found out that it’s a Suzuki Violin Summer Camp Concert. Haha! Much more to my surprise, to see my relatives. I didn’t know that Tita Melinda, Tita Nena and Tita Dan would be there too! Instant mini reunion! My cousin Mark, a violinist was part of it. First time to see him perform!

“Music can be made a great power for good…” ~ Ellen G. White, Messages to the Young People

Mark, savoring the moment with Maestro Homer :)

Instant mini reunion at the concert. :)

Instant mini reunion at the concert. 🙂

But surprises of all surprises, I was greatly entertained by the wee lass and lad who played gracefully with their tiny, gifted hands. Ranging from four to eight ears old, the kids reminded me of my childhood dream of taking piano and violin lessons. We just couldn’t afford it. I would love to have my future kids undergo such musical training, a good way to spend summer and childhood days productively. The discipline the music lessons give are apt contribution to their growth as well. Aside from the benefits of molding their minds and empowering their memories, it also give remarkable memoirs – friendships and lots of fun!

Tiny, cutie, gifted kids making mirthful music.

Tiny, cutie, gifted kids making mirthful music.

I know it’s not all fun when you have hours and hours of practice, memorization and moments of focus. That’s why I applauded at their superb performances! I have high regard and respect with musicians, whether beginners or masters of their instruments. I’m simply astonished with the talent and dedication of Maestro Homer Ilao, the master violinist and instructor of the Suzuki Violin Summer Camp. Through his exceptional tutelage, many gifted children were molded into exquisite instructors: Fredrick Murillo (orchestra conductor and violinist), Amber Loraine Murillo (performing pianist and violinist), Armand Leo Apalat (orchestra conductor and violinist), Aera Jean Apalat (concert master, violinist), Michael John Frias (performing violinist and pianist), Salome Velasco (performing violinist), Myjeily Sarno (performing violinist), to name a few.

Melodious Mother’s Love

Behind the success of this concert were parents who are great supporters and motivators. They deserve the best rendition ever! Especially the mothers who dedicated their time to look after their children, to encourage to be more determined in practices and of course, to spend wisely to provide the reasonable amount for music lessons. I could say it’s expensive, but it’s a very reasonable investment for the children’s growth! 🙂

This intuitive baby could be the next orchestra conductor :)

This intuitive baby could be the next orchestra conductor 🙂

This Suzuki Violin Summer Concert is special because of the heart-warming performance of the parents, singing “You Raise Me Up” with the accompaniment of the orchestra and a solo ballet performance of a girl (I wish I could have asked her name and personally appreciated her). It’s a yearly event. Since it’s my first, I just wish I could attend the next summer camp. I encourage the parents out there to support your kids to join the next Suzuki Violin Summer Camp. If your kids aren’t having music lessons yet, don’t dilly-dally to give them. You’ll surely reap a bountiful and mirthful harvest in the future! For queries and more info, kindly contact Mr. Homer Ilao (click his name to contact thru FB) or comment below. There would be another thrilling musical event this May! Don’t miss the National Suzuki Music Camp.

Unofficial Photographer

The “Chairman of the Bored of Cellist” (self-made title) entrusted his DSLR, and I knew what it meant when he said “kindly bring my camera”. I knew it! Haha! I didn’t even wonder why he fetched me – so there would be a media in their concert. After all, “Politician x Media” he commented. Haha! That political prowess! Persuasive at its best.

Bored of wackyness, the Chairman tries to be serious sometimes, especially when wearing barong. haha

So with my fondness for photography, I patiently captured the memories worth to be immortalized through the lenses. I’m not an expert. I just hoped I could give justice to their great performances.

As a simple token of our friendship, I’m dedicating this blog post to my gifted musician friends. Congratulations once again guys! You astonished me again and again! 🙂

Here are some of the videos taken. (more photos to be uploaded soon)

Michael John Frias aka “Master Mike” performed Hating Gabi by Antonio Molina with the orchestra. Then All of Me by John Legend was performed by the orchestra.

Here are related videos, the PIC Orchestra with Armand Leo Apalat, conducting; with violinists, cellist and saxophonist friends mentioned above. 🙂

They say musicians are best Mathematicians! Armand Leo Apalat is a CPA. I couldn't agree more! :)

“Praise to the Lord” and “You are My All in All” by PIC Orchestra were rendered during its 3rd year anniversary concert for a cause, for Yolanda Victims at Philippine International Church in the campus of the Adventist University of the Philippines.

PYC 2014: Experience

The faith-strengthening, four years have been gone with the wind. Time really flies! It’s been almost four years since the last time Philippine Youth for Christ was held at AUP campus.

For the two consecutive years, 2009 & 2010, there had been a lot of exquisite experiences gained through this meaningful event. I was personally blessed beyond compare!

The music and messages during PYC, especially on 2010’s EMPOWERED were remarkable and unforgettable! I’m privileged having been given a part to render special music, be in the choir, to share the joy of music ministry with the music committee. Hence, the theme song, sang by the choir and the congregation sets ablaze my desire to serve the soon-coming King, every time I hear it.

Do you still memorize it by heart, or at least know any part of the lyrics and its melody?

"We are empowered by the Spirit of God..." the ember is set ablaze every time the song plays in the mind. A remarkable music of my soul.

For sure, for those who’ve experienced the PYC 2009 and PYC 2010 have memorable experiences to share.

Were you there? Were you blessed? What did you do with your experience?

Surprisingly Surprised

creative box full of surprises!

a creative box full of surprises!

I love surprising her. She loves surprising me too! If we’re not having five years gap, I could have believed that we’re twins, like most people used to think.

Last Saturday morning, she handed me a box, and I was surprisingly surprised! Not because it’s a formal invitation to be her bridesmaid, instead of a Maid of Honor, but with a very touching creative artwork. I think she surpassed my creativity already! Here’s the description of me written in the list of the entourage.

“Maid of Honor”
Best stage sis.

Keeper of my most embarrassing stories.

Most likely to stop the ceremony to save a butterfly.

Identical but aren’t twins

For people whom we confused as twins, those who called me Zola, and who called her Lanie interchangeably, here’s what I’ve written for Zola’s birthday last year.

Baby Dalaga Bloomed to Beauteous Dilag

Since she was a wee lass, her wit, charm and beauty has been noticed by many. She’s kinda set-apart, she’s matured beyond her age.

She’s competitive yet compassionate. She’s tough and yet tender-hearted. She’s discreet and yet delightful (she loves to bully me sometimes — lambing).

My loquaciousness is challenged in describing her. If I won’t try brevity, my reservoir of adjectives might run out, oh what a calamity!

So, here’s an acronym:

Z-ealous
O-ptimistic
L-oving
A-miable

F-aithful
I-ntelligent
O-rganized
R-ealistic
E-xubirant
L-oyal
L-eader
A-dorable

I call her Babe (the gallant piglet, haha!), she calls me Baba (the black sheep with curly wool, horaay!). Like typical sisters, sometimes we argue, we have petty fights. But at the end of the day, we’re still best friends. Oooppsss, best frenemies haha!

We often confuse people of “which is which” — coz both friends and strangers misconceive us as “twins”. But we tend not to beguile, it’s just — legendary! ^^

Btw, attempt for brevity failed…Well, today’s a Special Sabbath, start of her quarter life. My special prayer is for her to overcome the quarter life crisis, if ever she’ll be bothered (haha). I hope the best for her & her future. May her lovelife & spirituality flourish more!

I l ove her big time!

Triumphant at Three!

Thrilled to post again after three months of blog sulking, I was surprised to receive a notification few minutes ago! It’s my blog’s 3rd Anniversary! Actually, my first blog post was on August 9. So, I badly missed it!

Happy Anniversary! August 15, 2014 gleeful greetings from WP

gleeful greetings from WP

I’ve got my favorite devotional from my bookshelf earlier, only to realize that it’s what I’ve featured more than three years ago. *click the title, Terse Soliloquy to read my first blog post ever!

More Than a Conqueror

The Vespers worship at Philippine International Church was graced with the Communion, or the Last Supper. The Week of Prayer is dubbed “More than Conquerors”. A student speaker delivered an inspiring the message. Sis. Jenny, a Dentistry student (Malaysian), emphasized about moral integrity, and how we could keep the purity thru God’s grace.

“Will there be a Mary among us who could bear Jesus?” was her query to the ladies.

“If you have been courting, or you have a girlfriend, what is your intention? Is her integrity and purity your priority?” she asked the gentlemen, as he emphasized Joseph’s characteristics.

2 Tim. 2:22 has been more personal to me, as I listen to Paul’s admonition to Timothy to:

  • Flee from youthful passions
  • Pursue righteousness, faith, love & peace
  • Have a pure heart

While contemplating on these as we’re about to begin foot washing, I wondered who would be my partner, I came late, and sat on the left wing (quite so behind), most of my friends used to sit at the right wing, front pews (where I used to sit too). People rushed out to get small basins of water and small towel, and to my surprise, Jenny Amurao approached me.

I was so delighted to see my former AUP Academy student, beaming with her lovely smile. She didn’t have a partner, and I’m grateful she came, she’s an answered prayer. “Ma’am Fronda, may partner ka na po?” she asked. I was quite hesitant at first, I was not ready for communion, but I wanted to have it. But it’s been a humbling experience to have her as a partner for the foot washing. It’s simply unforgettable! Jenny has grown a lot; graceful & lovely lady, a gifted singer.

When the emblems were distributed, I saw Klyde Carpizo, another former student (Jenny’s batch mate). He’s a deacon since last year, but I didn’t know that until his mom told me after worship. I even asked his dad, another deacon to confirm, “Is that your son Klyde, Sir?”, when he was giving the grape juice and the unleavened bread.

Life is indeed full of surprises! Last night was a blast of blessings! I also met & greeted Keanu Lee, Chill Orbe, saw Yesha Ilagan (Jenny’s batch mates). Two JENNYs made an impact in my life. I was tremendously inspired as I contemplate on God’s unfathomable love and unlimited grace. I’ll be more than a conqueror, coz Jesus has conquered the Arch Enemy even before I was conceived.

III-Gemini

As you can see my students' artwork, the first picture at the pink corner was Jenny's. She's the homeroom leader. :) They gave me this memento with their appreciation.

They gave me this memento with their appreciation.

They surprised me! They're dearly beloved and loved!

They surprised me! They’re dearly beloved and loved!

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-39, NIV (my favorite verses) 🙂

In Remembrance of Me

Full-packed PIC during communion service.

Full-packed PIC during communion service.

These are the quotations from Ellen G. White (The Desire of Ages pages 656-659) which the Senior Pastor read during the Communion. It challenged me more:

“None should exclude themselves from the Communion because some who are unworthy may be present. Every disciple is called upon to participate publicly, and thus bear witness that he accepts Christ as a personal Saviour. It is at these, His own appointments, that Christ meets His people, and energizes them by His presence. Hearts and hands that are unworthy may even administer the ordinance, yet Christ is there to minister to His children. All who come with their faith fixed upon Him will be greatly blessed. All who neglect these seasons of divine privilege will suffer loss. Of them it may appropriately be said, “Ye are not all clean.”

Our Lord says, Under conviction of sin, remember that I died for you. When oppressed and persecuted and afflicted for My sake and the gospel’s, remember My love, so great that for you I gave My life. When your duties appear stern and severe, and your burdens too heavy to bear, remember that for your sake I endured the cross, despising the shame. When your heart shrinks from the trying ordeal, remember that your Redeemer liveth to make intercession for you.

The Communion service points to Christ’s second coming. It was designed to keep this hope vivid in the minds of the disciples. Whenever they met together to commemorate His death, they recounted how “He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” In their tribulation they found comfort in the hope of their Lord’s return. Unspeakably precious to them was the thought, “As often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till He come.” 1 Cor. 11:26.”

Streams of teaching memories flooded, as I left the portals of AUP last night. I’m beyond grateful! My cup overflows! It really matters a lot to sit at the feet of Jesus, the Master Teacher!

“He who co-operates with the divine purpose in imparting to the youth a knowledge of God, and molding the character into harmony with His, does a high and noble work.” EGW, Education

I missed my former students big time, and as well as teaching! But definitely, I missed blogging so much!

I’m definitely triumphant at three! 🙂

Ready, Set, STOP!

I’ve always wanted to be back on track, to be consistent in running; joining fun run and pro run.

What’s with running? You might wonder.

For me, it’s more of the feeling of freedom, a package of endurance, agility and strength’s tests. Actually, it’s more of character building. Behind every successful run is a huge dose of discipline, determination and diligence. That’s pretty rewarding!

Birthday Blast

Having missed joining fun run and pro run last year and the earlier years, I’ve done other outdoor adventures to compensate my frustration. But those were so few, I longed for more!

Unknowingly, my younger sister Zola, an accomplished half-marathoner, registered me in an 8-K fun run early this year. She surprised me few days before the run, January 26th. I was bound to a four-day event, 7th Asia-Pacific Conference for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, held on January 21-24, 2014, at Philippine International Convention Center.

I felt so fulfilled having my dream answered, to volunteer in whatever program or outreach with a good cause on my birthday. Instead of paying P 14,000 in an international conference I was invited to take part, I was accepted as a volunteer. So, it was like hitting two birds in one stone!

Tired but happy serving as one of the registrars for the registration. I encountered roughly 1,000 people, delegates and participants from countries all over Asia-Pacific Region and beyond.

Tired but happy serving as one of the registrars for the registration. I met roughly 1,000 people, delegates and participants from countries all over Asia-Pacific region and beyond. (There’s a blog post about the 7th APCSRHR)

Though tired for the four-day event, spent on travels (I commuted twice going back and forth Silang, Cavite-Pasay City) and various services done in the conference (usherette, monitor for satellite presentations, assistant to the speaker, assisted a reporter during a coverage), I was excited to run!

I also lacked sleep and having no enough vim. But my delight, being given such unexpected gift, surpassed my body’s condition.

Unexpected! sandwiched by too 'beauty and brains', Ms. Monique Wilson, the world-renown Broadway artist, and Ms. Myrel de Castro, one of the organizers.

Run for Your Life, Run!

Imagine yourself being one of a thousand runners, or more than that, having one aim: to reach the finish line, in the shortest time possible. It’s like the battle of the fittest, and the race of the fastest.

Meanwhile in a fun run, you have all the time, no pressure (unless you wanna beat your time limit). As long as you finish the race, you’re a winner.

Having that in mind, I just wanted to enjoy and have fun! It’s a bonding with my sister and my friends. After all, it’s just 8 kilometers!

One of my favorite movies, Forrest Gump flashed back, when Forrest started to run for years, only to find out he has no specific reasons why did he run.

Epiphanies on Track

While on track, I was talking to Therese, a dear friend. Since my sister Zola was fast, we’re left. Instead of focusing, we talked, and talked; we even stopped once in awhile.

But I was aware, while running, I thought of the three P’s to keep in mind:

  • Pacing – it should be constant, once you stop, you’ll have a hard time starting again. Avoid distractions, or else, plan destruction follows.
  • Patience – the vital key, not only during training (for a race, pro run), but while on track.
  • Perseverance – keep your mind to your goal — reach the finish line.

These are actually not new. But these three P’s are running after me, again and again. It followed me as far as Oriental Mindoro, my province. Well, sometimes, you ought to do crazy and corny stuff to keep your sanity!

Coming here in our province made me realize that I needed to slow down, find solitude, and sulk (healthy sulking), if needed. I’ve been in a rat-race and have always been anxious to finish an ample amount of to-do-list, while my body silently scream for proper and longer rest.

This also help me evaluate my efforts in the past few weeks. What I’ve been too absorbed with, what I was eager to accomplish. I’ve got many appointments, here and there. Some friendly requests, volunteer writing projects and extra writing job. Well, I had sense of fulfillment and fun (especially volunteer blogging/writing), I also had some regrets. I thought of this, having the musings, “there’s power in second thought”, and “it’s ok to say NO!”. After all, I’m no Wonder Woman!

Feasting on these books helped me a lot! I should have spent more time feeding on His Word.

Feasting on these books helped me a lot! I should have spent more time feeding on His Word.

Taking the risks worth taking is worth it!

Taking the risks worth taking, is worth it!

With regards to spiritual race, I was reminded of 1 Corinthians 9:24-27:

The Need for Self-Discipline

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.

27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Grateful for the grace, I finished the fun run with a flash! haha! (my thigh started to ache, I looked like leaning to Errand).

“Trustful dependence on Jesus makes victory not only possible, but certain.” ~ Signs of the Times, Jan. 3, 1906

I’ve always wanted to be back on track, to be consistent in running; joining fun run and pro run.

But more to that, I’ve always wanted to just be on the TRACK OF LIFE. Through God’s grace, I wanna have the CROWN OF LIFE, waiting for me at the finish line.

AmBAG Glows at Good Morning Club

People all over the world, gaze with wonder at the world-renowned Amazing Race. Huge numbers of watchers from all walks of life follow the journey with thrill for the task and trial, the participating partners travail.

Meanwhile, in the world of Game Changers and Change Makers, a different amazing race is about to end, and many supporters and cheerers all over the world (literally), and in the world of entertainment industry is anticipating who would prevail!

I am referring to the Friendly Challenge between best buddies: ‘Chief ThorMentor’ Doc Anton Mari Lim and ‘SuperMentoree’ Josh Mahinay, and their support groups, Team Doc Anton and Team Josh. The Race-to-100 Sales’ days are numbered! Yes! Barely 3 days more!

In case you missed the blog updates, or you’ve just seen this entry, here are the links to earlier posts. These include the AmBAG Campaign blurb, until the last update. (Click the titles to read the posts).

From Supot to School Bag. @joshmahinay , prime mover & founder of @bag943 . As a child he would walk 10kms to school, carrying all his books & school things in a plastic bag exactly like the one he is holding on to now. When he returned to his remote hometown in Zamboanga Sibugay , he saw a kid carrying the same supot . It was a sign from God that he had to do something about it. This is his way of giving back. He has been a recipient of people’s generosity , saving him fr a life of poverty. Let us be part of this culture of generosity.

Gracing Good Morning Club

Early today, AmBAG was again featured! After Josh Mahinay’s guesting in DZMM TeleRadyo with hosts Julius Babao and Nina Corpuz, he got another invitation to grace at TV5’s Good Morning Club. All of these were done through Ms. Christine Babao’s initiative. She has become the BIG SISTER to BAG943, especially to Josh and Team Josh. She’s shown sincere and superb support that resulted to the sprinting spree of Team Josh, catching up with fast-paced Team Doc Anton.

The highlight of the interview was about Josh’s childhood days, when he’s got the famous nickname, “supot/plastic boy” among his classmates. He used a sando plastic bag (red striped) to carry his school supplies and books; he used to ask for at a “tindahan” (mini store). He used to walk 10km a day going to school, with high hopes of acquiring education that would equip him to reach his dreams.

But his life drastically changed when a distant relative gave him a backpack. That’s the first decent bag he had, which made him feel he belong to the class! It boosted his aspirations in chasing his dreams, and in changing his life. The rest was a humbling history of his quest in the Western World and of his return to his beloved country to pursue greener pastures.

From a simple tweet which Ms. Christine read, she not only purchased backpacks, not only back-up the interview at DZMM TeleRadyo yesterday, but also invited Josh for an interview at her morning show early today. What a superb supporter!

Beauteous Bag of Dreams

Once a “supot boy”, Josh has been a “supportive bag giver” through the Bag of Dreams Project, which involves other generous people, to pay forward the generosity, goodness and compassion he received throughout his journey.

Now that BAG943’s AmBAG Campaign continues, he was able to rally more people to leave footprints of faith and fervent support to this advocacy. He’s blessed tremendously with same passionate people, and most importantly, a partner he teasingly calls “TorMENTOR”. Doc Anton Mari Lim is known for his volunteerism, patriotism and socialism. He’s the veterinary doctor who helped Kabang, the Aspin hero who save the lives of kids from death, though severely wounded. He’s also recognized for his medical missions with Tzu Chi Foundation and Yellow Boat of Hope and Yellow School of Hope Foundation.  They’re indeed a thrilling tandem of champions for children and for humanity; channels of God’s love and blessings.

UPDATE ON #amBAG RACE TO 100 FRIENDLY CHALLENGE between Josh Mahinay and Anton Mari Lim: “I would really love it if TeamJosh and TeamDocAnton cross the finish line together as TeamHumanity! Because if we cross the line together it means 200 kids of our YELLOW BOAT OF HOPE ADOPT-A-FISHERMAN recipients will get a brand new bag to inspire them to go back to school. To hope and dream again! Thanks for your hard work and support. LET’S SELL MORE BAGS TeamJosh and TeamDocAnton” ~Doc Anton

Sprinting with the Stars

While Team Josh enjoys the blessings channeled through the numerous supporters, especially the Babao couple, Team Doc Anton cast the creative craft through Ms. Apple Pia Peji, a lovely loyalist of the team. Since she’s working in ABS-CBN, she was able to rally the AmBAG campaign among Umagang Kay Ganda Anchors. TeamJosh got Kapatid stars, TeamDocAnton got Kapamilya stars. Now, I wonder if there would be Kapuso stars who would join the AmBAG campaign.

Pacing with Patience, Pressing with Perseverance

The Amazing Race is known for the survival of the fittest, great strategist; known for strength, endurance and agility. On the other hand, The Friendly Challenge: Race-to-100 Sales is known for the same qualities and more so, known for rallying awesome people of the same kind.

The twist and cherry on top, it is known for the spirit of ‘BAYANIHAN’; for each team helps each other to reach the mark together. Fun, and full of fans, this remarkable and amazing race would be another legacy of God’s grace and guidance. Everyone involved and each of those who resolved to help the Yolanda kids is part of this historic episode.

Instead of munching popcorn, relaxed while watching the Amazing Race: Friendly Challenge, you should ask yourself, “ano AmBAG ko?!” or “Naka-amBAG nab a ako?”

AmBAG Dazzles at DZMM TeleRadyo

On Saturday night, I posted AmBAG Shines at the FilAm Star. It’s an update about AmBAG’s Friendly Challenge, and how the simple ‘kulitan’ made an impact to the netizens. It even created a big wave and reached the Bay Area.

Surprisingly, an article featuring the AmBAG campaign, “Dual Voice: Ambag of Kindness”  by Sir Federico Espiritu was published in FilAm Star. Aside from featuring it, he also purchased a BAG943 backpack, promoted it, in support of Team Doc Anton. It’s overwhelming how this endeavor caught the attention of the Fil-Am community in the US.

Mirthful Morning

Meanwhile, Team Josh remarkably made a sprint to catch up with the fast-paced Team Doc Anton. Moreover, Josh Mahinay’s interview yesterday (6:00am-7am) at “MAGANDANG MORNING with Julius Babao and Niña Corpuz”, DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 garnered a surprising response from the social media and listeners. This interview was done through the superb support and initiative of Team Josh’s major supporters, the celebrity couple, Christine and Julius Babao. Kindly read Trending for Tacloban Kids for more details.

Humility Before Honor

On February 28, I posted An Encounter with a Bayaning Pilipino. It’s a feature about Dr. Anton Mari Lim, the recent recipient of Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. BAYANING PILIPINO award. It’s a story of how a lowly volunteer was recognized for his compassion and generosity. It also tells about the God’s providential workings, how he was able to connect with Josh through a Rappler article and work closely with Josh and BAG943.

Here’s his heartfelt response:

“Thank you Lailanie Antonio Fronda and Josh Mahinay for this nice blog. I almost did not recognize myself in the blog. I am just a volunteer trying to make the world a little brighter for the kids wherever I am! You guys give meaning to the word AFFIRMATION and I thank God for the honor of having crossed path and now work together in His name! Thank you…the honor is definitely mine! See you in the trenches!!!”

It's more than an encounter with Dr. Anton Lim, a modern Bayaning Pilipino

It’s more than just a mere encounter with Dr. Anton. To him, it is a divine appointment how we met as well.

Unsung Hero Next Door

“Heroes are people who decide to make extraordinary things out of their ordinary lives.

Some of them willingly offer their lives so that others may live with dignity, and free as a people.

Some of them, still live to fight the many challenges of today. But many of them are heroes undiscovered and undeveloped.”

~ Dr. Anton Mari H. Lim (acceptance speech excerpt)

The ripple effect of the Rappler article written by BAG943’s founder & prime mover,“Leaving Los Angeles to Pursue Greener Pastures” is immeasurable. Who would have thought how far the ripples of his pebble of influence could reach?

This is the same article shared by Ms. Christine Babao in her Twitter and Facebook accounts, in awe of how God used Josh to be a blessing to many people. Through this, she also channel the inspiring story of BAG943. Josh is indeed an unsung hero for the impoverished kids and other people whom BAG943 has touched.

Ripple Effect through Rappler

It’s barely seven months ago (Aug.9, 2013) when it was published, and I’ve got to read it. Exactly one month ago (Feb.9) when Josh invited me in Life Church Makati (5th Floor, Holiday Inn & Suites, Glorietta 1) for their re-launch and for a meeting/interview. I could never have imagined the difference that my creative craft made. I can’t thank God’s providential workings enough for this, and how he channeled this blessing of writing ministry to others.

“Lanie, just want you to know that you are very effective in what you do. Please keep that fire burning inside you. I personally declare, you are the official creative writer of BAG943.

Doc Anton and I were talking about you today, how blessed BAG943 is to have you, and how efficient you are as a supporter blogger.”

I am humbled and privileged to be part of this advocacy and for this affirmation. I remembered that day, seven months ago how I got acquainted with Josh. I have no idea that by responding to the call to volunteer would give this outcome. I’ve been able to connect with great people with same passion!

“I’ll do it with that compliment or without…I’m honored always to be with your great movement!”

Pastor Prudy responded when Josh complimented with his willingness to represent BAG943 in the said event.

“Speechless in a close encounter and chat with the founder of the biggest Sunday School in the world (Metro World Child), BILL WILSON! He was abandoned by his alcoholic mother on a street corner of New York. He was stabbed, thrown out of a building, threatened, had malaria, dengue, shot on the face, had his jaw broken. But because someone cared for him as an abandoned child, his passion for children all over the world is very contagious!!! He got me sponsor a Filipino child to school.” ~ Ptr. Prudy Mopera

Journey with Bag of Dreams

God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

From the day I read the article, I followed the journey of BAG943. This is the remarkable recognition this social enterprise received.

His Bidding is Enabling

I read another awesome article from Rappler, published on January 12, 2014. It was written by Sir Ezra Ferraz, a expert business columnist of Executive Edge. In an interview on “How businesses can best give back in 2014”, Josh emphasized his insight on a good campaign.

“For me, a good campaign and networking are equally important. If your campaign is weak, you will not likely get support, even from your closest networks. On the other hand, meeting the right people to accelerate and sustain a strong campaign is critical. Your networks are your catalyst for success.”

In his recent introspection, he said:

“It is not only about God sending you these people, it is about you intentionally choosing to have the right people to influence your life.

Speaking from personal experience, there were moments when I had to cut my self off from people who were hindering me to be what God really wanted me to become.

By doing so, it gives lots of rooms for people who’ll help you and journey with you towards your rightful destination or place.”

Here’s an excerpt from Sir Ezra’s article. Prior to this blog entry, I was able to connect with him through Facebook. I appreciate his quick and kind response.

Build trust through transparency

One way to create a great campaign is to earn the good faith of your network through complete transparency. Mahinay put it simply: “People support you inasmuch as they trust you. It is important that you commit to deliver your brand’s promise. You don’t make promises that you are not hundred-percent sure that you can deliver. A system that will show transparency must also be in place.”

Mahinay goes to great lengths to accomplish this in BAG943. “After every bag drive, we send a thank you note and an email update to each of our customers, along with a picture and biographical information of the beneficiary school child. The bag of each child also carries a tag that has the name of the customer-giver. This not only gives assurance, but it also allows the customer-giver and the beneficiary child to share a special bond and connection.” ~Ezra Ferraz, “How businesses can best give back in 2014”

“You can’t change the world but certainly, you can change “a world”. The people I met during my journey changed mine. Now, it’s time to change someone else’s.” ~Josh Mahinay (A Gift Set in Motion: The Story of BAG943)

The crisis in central visayas is not yet over. With survivor kids living with whatever typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) left them, let's let them know that it is okay to dream again.
